INTRAMUSCULAR STIMULATION
Intramuscular stimulation (Dry Needling) is an effective and safe treatment for trigger point pain and dysfunction. Trigger points are painful areas of muscle that include knots of muscle, that form when muscles do not relax. During dry needling, a practitioner will insert several filiform needles into your skin that penetrate and stimulate underlying myofascial trigger points and muscular and connective tissues. Filiform needles are fine, short, stainless steel needles that don’t inject fluid into the body. That’s why the term “dry” is used. The needle targets tissues that are not manually palpable. Dry needling releases or inactivates trigger points to relieve pain or improve range of motion. This can help speed up the patient's return to active rehabilitation.
